BoxCryptor welcomes a new team member: Adrian

We are very happy to welcome our new team member Adrian – and as Adrian will focus on Mac OS X and iOS development, I am sure that a lot of our users are very happy now, too 🙂

Adrian graduated from Informatics (Computer Science) in 2007 and since then worked on a lot of projects, from social networks to apps and games.

He is also working as a software engineer for Adium (probably the best open source IM client for Mac OS X).

One of his biggest dreams is to move to Germany as he loves Germany and especially Bavaria (which we totally understand because Bavarian beer gardens are the best place to be in summer).

Besides being an avid Apple and BMW fan, he is passionated about engineering and design.

When not sitting in front of his computer Adrian loves speeding with his BMW, playing football and traveling.

Adrian’s message to all our users: “Beware, exciting updates are coming to Mac OS X and iOS apps!” so stay tuned 🙂

BoxCryptor is ready for Mountain Lion and Jelly Bean

On schedule for the release of Mac OS X Mountain Lion today, we have released a new version of BoxCryptor for Mac OS X which is ready for Apple’s new operating system. BoxCryptor for Mac OS X  v1.0.2 is now signed by our Apple Developer Certificate which is required by Mountain Lion’s new  Gatekeeper feature. If Gatekeeper is activated (which it is by default), applications can only be installed if they have been downloaded from the Mac App Store or if they are signed by such a certificate.

Besides the code signing, we also added a setting to modify the autostart of BoxCryptor. As these are only minor changes, there’s no need to update from v1.0.1 if you’re a Mac OS X Lion user and don’t intend to upgrade to Mountain Lion.

A few days ago, we have also released a new version of BoxCryptor for Android. Version 1.3.1 does now also support Android 4.1 Jelly Bean which recently has been released by Google.

Update 07/26/2012:

Unfortunately, there was a small problem with the new autostart setting which caused BoxCryptor to crash under certain circumstances. We’ve fixed it in the new version v1.0.3 which you can download here. Sorry for the inconveniences.

But we also have good news in this update: Apple has approved our new version v1.2 of BoxCryptor for iOS and it is available for download in the App Store. It has the following changes:

Files within the BoxCryptor app can now be send via email. Be aware, that the files are attached in plaintext. To send a file via email, long press the file and choose “Send via email…”
  • Offline-Cache
We’ve added a cache for downloaded files so that you don’t have to re-download a file again if it was downloaded to your device before. The cache size is 128MB by default and can be changed in the Settings. In order to maintain the security of your files, only encrypted files are cached. When opening a file, it is always decrypted and the plaintext file is immediately deleted afterwards.
